After travelling Central America extensively in 2008 and discovering a true passion for photography, I had to revisit Nicaragua in 2015. The amount of natural beauty in the people and the landscapes captured my heart and called me back down to this hidden gem. Known as the land of volcanoes and lakes, there was no shortage of photographic opportunities. And if volcanoes and lakes aren’t enough, the 17th-century colonial architecture, vibrant-coloured homes, and great surf beaches make Nicaragua a photographer’s paradise. I really enjoyed going through the busy markets with a wide-angle lens and photographing people as I walked by, trying to capture their authentic expressions. The culture, the great food, and friendly people topped all of the other Central American countries in my eyes, and I would recommend Nicaragua to anyone looking for an amazing and affordable adventure. — Justin Samson
