I started taking photos when I was six with my parents’ point-and-click film camera. You know the type—the one with the little four-sided flash cube. My favourite subjects were gophers. I wasn’t very good at sneaking up on them, so I had a lot of “See . . . the gopher’s right there, Mom!” type of pictures.
The Sunshine Coast has been home for me and my wife and daughter for fourteen years. In the last four years, I have pursued photography seriously, loving all of the opportunities I get with my camera. My day job has me travelling up and down the Coast, so I get to see many wonderful locations for shooting.
I love experimenting—from studio shoots to long-exposure landscape work—and photographing the productions of local dance groups and schools. Dance is by far the most challenging photography I have done. I’m happy with the results so far, but I feel there is still a lot more to learn.
My ”go-to” creatures for photography are bugs and birds. Dragonflies and herons are both majestic and graceful hunters that can be a little trying to photograph, but worth all the patience in the world when I get to capture the right moment. At the top of my photography list, however, are photos of my daughter. It’s pure fun. — Reid Page
