A carefully curated gift store is a delight for both locals and tourists. Wacky, practical, beautiful, whimsical, local. There is something for everybody. Repeat visits always uncover new gems. Tourists wanting a souvenir or locals in need of a gift will never go wrong stopping in at Ground Waves.

This eclectic yet wholesome, family-run business in Madeira Park has been a gift to the community. Erin and Bruce Hirst, who opened the original Ground Waves in Perth Ontario, have just the right combination of hands-on experience and friendly zeal to make a real contribution to the community. And they are loving their West Coast “retirement.”

Like many, local shopper Karyn is happy to have Ground Waves in the neighbourhood:

“Ground Waves in Madeira Park is quickly becoming a go-to spot for tasteful home decor, jewelry, local crafts, and children’s items.”

The Madeira store features the work of many artists and artisans from the Coast, including local graphic designs from Wild Mountain Designs, Wendie Milner’s natural body-care products, and pieces by the Pink Squirrel Sign Company.

No gift store is complete without tempting treats like vegan caramels and chocolate from Hooray Truffles, gluten-free brownies, and locally roasted coffee. Ground Waves is committed to a high-quality, conscientious presence in Madeira Park. In addition to carefully selected toys, Canadian crafts, artwork, and merchandise, they provide a happy work environment and treat staff like family. In fact, family is a priority in all aspects of the business.

The store has a wonderful sales team and everyone has a great time working together. As a family business, all the HIrst children have helped in sourcing products and daughter Megan runs the back office with Bruce.

A new and inviting kids’ area is decorated with an underwater theme. Shelves are lined with lots of stuffies, old-fashioned toys, Jelly Cat animals, and Lottie dolls. It’s a great stop on weekends or after school.

Another shopper describes Ground Waves as “very community-minded and quick to support local endeavours.”

Some wonderful news is that Ground Waves will be coming to another community on the Sunshine Coast, as they are looking at options for an additional location. Ground Waves is excited about new opportunities to support community and enhance tourism. ·
