Décor. What does it do for us? Does it just tyrannize us with prescribed colour, rigid style, and fussy objects that we have to clean around? No. Not when employed intelligently and with a sense of fun. It can define our space, set a tone, speak of our priorities. It lets us work, relax, dine, and entertain in a setting of comfort, functionality, coherence, and inspiration. At its best, décor grows naturally out of our lifestyle. But most of us need a little help.

At Cur8ed Home, owners Ernie and Christine Turner have simplified the process by using their experience and taste to fill their store with only beautiful, functional, affordable items to choose from. And if you still need help, you can make an appointment for a complimentary showroom consultation with Tara de Grandmaison, of De Grandmaison Interiors. Tara will help you find your unique décor path.

Christine Turner knows that we on the Coast are price sensitive and bargain savvy: “I’m always looking for items at great prices that we can pass on to our customers, so my best sources are auction houses and suppliers of as-is and last-of items. I love sourcing unique items and especially great pieces that resemble high-end items but at a fraction of the cost, as in the many magazines that feature ‘the look for less.’

Christine understands, too, that every home is unique. We all have items that we have moved and kept with us for years: heirlooms, travel mementos, a contemporary piece that never loses its appeal, or something quirky that we just never seem to outgrow. Turner has the same wide range of appeal in her showroom.

ch3“The showroom is an eclectic but carefully selected blend of décor and furniture from our suppliers, mixed with a few interesting or unique vintage pieces. It’s actually reminiscent of the way most people curate items for their own homes, mixing new pieces with cherished items they’ve had for years. It’s that mix that makes each home as unique as an individual’s personality.”

Sometimes we just need to visit homes, showrooms, and stores to see what speaks to us. Embellish Emporium is a gift and décor store also owned by Turner. The displays there are arranged according to current trends with the aim of inspiring visitors to think about articulating their own style.

Some of us are still daunted. And while there are many gorgeous homes on the Coast, and lots of homeowners with talent for and a delight in decorating, a good number of us are so busy with all the outdoor activities on offer here, raising families, pursuing creative endeavours, and working one or more jobs, that the idea of beautifying a living space seems overwhelming. Turner understands:

“Decorating or creating a cohesive style for your home need not be a daunting task. When you surround yourself with pieces that you love, mixed with those that have a function, you will create a comfortable living space that can actually reduce stress. When everything is in its place, you will have that ‘Ahhhh’ sensation when you get time to relax from life’s demands.”
