Since 1973 the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts has been giving our many hard-working performers a valuable chance to hone their skills in front of an audience and to receive a helpful critique from an off-coast expert. The longest-running festival on the Sunshine Coast grows a little in attendance and depth each year.

The 2023 festival will run from April 11 to May 11 with a Highlights Concert on May 13. Registration opens the week of January 9 and closes February 15.

There are categories for most instruments, band and choir, dance, and even speech and dramatic arts, with levels for junior, intermediate, senior, and open. Adjudicators are chosen from diverse backgrounds and are unfailingly positive and encouraging.

The Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts relies on crucial support from sponsors and donors. Financial contributions make it possible for the Festival to exist. They also allow the Festival to secure high quality adjudication, and provide awards and scholarships annually to outstanding individuals and groups to encourage their ongoing development as performers.

For our small but mighty community of performers, and their coaches and teachers, the festival is a chance to set goals and prepare for the rigours of adjudication, competition, and performance in front of an audience. The importance of this kind of opportunity is hard to overstate. Katherine Hume, co-owner of Montgomery Music and Director of Music at St. Hilda’s Anglican Church explains, “The SCFPA is an excellent opportunity for our students to perform in a nurturing environment while receiving constructive feedback from professional adjudicators.”
