Cardinal Barbershop in Lower Gibsons has been incredibly busy since opening in August 2022.

Owners Mike and Cara Chailler moved here in 2021, craving a business they could build together. Mike had lived here on the Coast until he was twenty, and Cara had been working as a barber for many years. It made good sense to try an old-fashioned shop in a quaint and growing town like Gibsons.

Their shop is a hit, offering traditional barber services such as haircuts, beard trims, and hot-towel, straight-razor shaves. Mike says guys on the coast are ready for some down time and pampering:

“Our straight razor shaves are a very popular service! It’s a great way to unwind and get pampered. Multiple hot towels, shave gels, creams, and lotions get massaged in, making for a long, relaxing experience.”

The couple built and designed everything in their welcoming shop together. Cara does the trims and Mike keeps the books and does the marketing. Post-COVID might have been just the right time for this kind of ‘slower-lifestyle’ business. Cara and Mike note that they aren’t the only new people in town:

“We have had a mix of people from all walks of life, from all different places. Many of our clients have moved here from all over the world! Most have moved from cities, seeking a more relaxed, slower pace of life.”

Cara’s barber cuts are popular with both male and female clients. It feels just right when a new small business finds its niche and sustainably supports the business owners while adding something great to the community.

“We love working together and getting to meet so many wonderful people on the Coast. We absolutely love living here and having a shop down in beautiful Lower Gibsons overlooking the harbour.”
